Ce cours de 16 heures a fourni une technologie et une terminologie de base sur les murs extérieurs qui sont utilisées comme base fondamentale pour des offres de cours supplémentaires sur les murs extérieurs. The chapter presented the Exterior Wall Technology and Science course over 4 half-days on November 13, 14, 20 & 21, 2024. The instructors were:

This 16-hour course provided basic exterior wall technology and terminology that is used as the fundamental base for additional exterior wall course offerings. The course covered a broad range of topics, including types and function of exterior walls, psychrometrics and moisture movement, design objectives and building code requirements, wall penetrations, materials, coatings and water repellents, and sealants. This course is aimed at those preparing to expand their knowledge into exterior walls and at those already practicing in this area who want to further develop their knowledge in exterior wall technology.

The course was a success with an audience of consultant/engineers and other industry professionals. 18 attendees where present.

Le Conseil national de recherches du Canada (CNRC), en collaboration avec des membres de l’industrie des toitures végétalisées et des associations de toitures, a établi une norme nationale de résistance au vent pour les ensembles de toitures végétalisées (VRA) – y compris les systèmes modulaires et intégrés – nommée CAN/CSA A123.24, « Méthode d’essai normalisée pour la résistance au vent de l’assemblage de toiture végétalisée ». La norme est une procédure expérimentale consensuelle visant à déterminer la performance du vent et l’indice de résistance des VRA en fonction de critères de réussite et d’échec. La norme CAN/CSA A123.24 est un outil précieux tant pour les responsables du bâtiment que pour les fabricants de VRA. Il est destiné à aider l’industrie VRA à explorer une conception innovante tout en assurant son intégrité contre les forces du vent. La présentation fournira le contexte de l’élaboration de la norme ainsi que des informations pratiques sur la façon dont la norme est appliquée pour vérifier la conformité au code.

The chapter held an in-person breakfast seminar on: ‘Applying the CAN_CSA A123_24 Standard Test Method for Wind Resistance of Vegetated Roof Assembly’. The seminar took place at the Ottawa Conference and Event Centre, Thursday, September 26, 2024 – 09h30-10h30 EST.

National Research Council of Canada (NRC)

The National Research Council of Canada (NRC), in collaboration with members from the vegetated roof industry and roofing associations, established a national wind resistance standard for vegetated roof assemblies (VRAs) -including modular and built-in-place systems- named CAN/CSA A123.24, “Standard test method for wind resistance of vegetated roof assembly”. The standard is a consensus-based experimental procedure to determine the wind performance and resistance rating of VRAs based on pass/fail criteria. CAN/CSA A123.24 is a valuable tool for both building officials and VRA manufacturers. It is intended to help the VRA industry to explore innovative design while ensuring its integrity against wind forces. The presentation will provide the background of the standard development as well as practical insights on how the standard is applied to verify code compliance.

Événement social de lancer de hache / Axe Throwing Social Event

Le Chapitre Québec-Ontario a récemment organisé un événement social de lancer de hache extrêmement réussi à BATL Ottawa, situé au 2615, chemin Lancaster. Le rassemblement a vu la participation enthousiaste de 24 participants enthousiastes. L’événement a bénéficié d’une représentation impressionnante des membres et des non-membres de l’IIBEC, y compris des consultants, des entrepreneurs et un large éventail d’autres professionnels de l’industrie.

S’étendant sur deux heures engageantes, l’événement comprenait un tournoi de classement de style tournoi à la ronde, qui s’est transformé de manière transparente en un tournoi éliminatoire passionnant. Pour assurer une expérience sûre et agréable, les organisateurs ont fourni des coachs experts qui ont guidé les participants dans la maîtrise des techniques appropriées.

En complément de la compétition animée, les participants ont apprécié une délicieuse sélection de nourriture et de boissons, favorisant une atmosphère dynamique de camaraderie et de plaisir. L’événement a été un succès retentissant, laissant tout le monde dans la bonne humeur.

The Quebec Ontario Chapter recently hosted a tremendously successful axe-throwing social event at BATL Ottawa, situated at 2615 Lancaster Road. The gathering saw enthusiastic participation from 24 skilled and eager attendees. The event boasted impressive representation from both IIBEC members and non-members, including consultants, contractors, and a diverse array of other industry professionals.

Spanning two engaging hours, the event featured a round-robin style ranking tournament, which seamlessly transitioned into an exciting playoff tournament. To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, the organizers provided expert coaches who guided participants in mastering proper techniques.

Complementing the spirited competition, attendees enjoyed a delightful selection of food and drinks, fostering a vibrant atmosphere of camaraderie and fun. The event was a resounding success, leaving everyone in high spirits.
