Nous remercions également tout particulièrement le personnel de soutien de l’IIBEC et administratrice de notre chapitre, Christine Kebezes.

À l’avenir, nous anticipons faire croître le conseil d’administration du Chapitre Québec-Ontario et de diversifier l’offre de services à nos membres.

Le chapitre a présenté le cours de technologie et science des murs extérieurs sur 4 demi-journées, le 13, 14, 20 et 21 novembre, 2024. Les instructeurs étaient :

Ce cours de 16 heures a fourni une technologie et une terminologie de base sur les murs extérieurs qui sont utilisées comme base fondamentale pour des offres de cours supplémentaires sur les murs extérieurs. Le cours a couvert un large éventail de sujets, y compris les types et la fonction des murs extérieurs, la psychrométrie et le mouvement de l’humidité, les objectifs de conception et les exigences du code du bâtiment, les pénétrations de murs, les matériaux, les revêtements et les hydrofuges, et les scellants. The chapter presented the Exterior Wall Technology and Science course over 4 half-days on November 13, 14, 20 & 21, 2024. The instructors were:

This 16-hour course provided basic exterior wall technology and terminology that is used as the fundamental base for additional exterior wall course offerings. The course covered a broad range of topics, including types and function of exterior walls, psychrometrics and moisture movement, design objectives and building code requirements, wall penetrations, materials, coatings and water repellents, and sealants. This course is aimed at those preparing to expand their knowledge into exterior walls and at those already practicing in this area who want to further develop their knowledge in exterior wall technology.

The course was a success with an audience of consultant/engineers and other industry professionals. 18 attendees where present.

Le chapitre a organisé un petit-déjeuner-séminaire en personne sur: ‘Application du CAN_CSA A123_24 Standard Test Method for Wind Resistance of Vegetated Roof Assembly ‘. Le séminaire a eu lieu au Centre de conférences et d’événements d’Ottawa, le jeudi 26 septembre – 09h30-10h30 EST

Le Conseil national de recherches du Canada (CNRC), en collaboration avec des membres de l’industrie des toitures végétalisées et des associations de toitures, a établi une norme nationale de résistance au vent pour les ensembles de toitures végétalisées (VRA) – y compris les systèmes modulaires et intégrés – nommée CAN/CSA A123.24, « Méthode d’essai normalisée pour la résistance au vent de l’assemblage de toiture végétalisée ». La norme est une procédure expérimentale consensuelle visant à déterminer la performance du vent et l’indice de résistance des VRA en fonction de critères de réussite et d’échec. La norme CAN/CSA A123.24 est un outil précieux tant pour les responsables du bâtiment que pour les fabricants de VRA. Il est destiné à aider l’industrie VRA à explorer une conception innovante tout en assurant son intégrité contre les forces du vent. La présentation fournira le contexte de l’élaboration de la norme ainsi que des informations pratiques sur la façon dont la norme est appliquée pour vérifier la conformité au code.

The chapter held an in-person breakfast seminar on: ‘Applying the CAN_CSA A123_24 Standard Test Method for Wind Resistance of Vegetated Roof Assembly’. The seminar took place at the Ottawa Conference and Event Centre, Thursday, September 26, 2024 – 09h30-10h30 EST.

National Research Council of Canada (NRC)

The National Research Council of Canada (NRC), in collaboration with members from the vegetated roof industry and roofing associations, established a national wind resistance standard for vegetated roof assemblies (VRAs) -including modular and built-in-place systems- named CAN/CSA A123.24, “Standard test method for wind resistance of vegetated roof assembly”. The standard is a consensus-based experimental procedure to determine the wind performance and resistance rating of VRAs based on pass/fail criteria. CAN/CSA A123.24 is a valuable tool for both building officials and VRA manufacturers. It is intended to help the VRA industry to explore innovative design while ensuring its integrity against wind forces. The presentation will provide the background of the standard development as well as practical insights on how the standard is applied to verify code compliance.
